Description

Uzbekistan was a trading city on the old silk road. As Jews were always merchants they operated on the silk road and settled in cities in Uzbekistan. The Bukharin Jews, are the Mizrahi Jewish sub-group of Central Asia that dwelt predominantly in what is today Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Afghanistan.

I visited a number of cities in Uzbekistan and was overcome by the beauty of this remote and exotic part of the world. The design of the tray is inspired by some art work I saw in a home of Bucharian Jews. It gives me joy to bring to life old designs from far flung locations. of Jewish life.
