This trivet represents a small window in the rich Jewish history. As part of excavations in Jericho in the year 1936, a 10m by 13m mosaic floor with the inscription 'shalom al yisrael' ('peace upon Israel') was discovered. This mosaic floor was identified as a synagogue founded in the 6th century, and likely destroyed in a powerful earthquake in the year 747 BC.
